National Geographic Live is a series of talks by the ultra popular magazine that has been bringing nature to our doorsteps at eclectic and inviting venues across the world. And this March on Sunday the first, Marine Biologist Jess Cramp is telling the Untold Story of Sharks to all of us here at the Kirby Center!

And now - Nat Geo is going live and in person! Teaming up with the oh so talented Marine Biologist Jess Cramp to dive into the Untold Stories of Sharks. Right here at the Kirby Center on March the 1st - right here for us all to learn from and enjoy!
So - who exactly is Jess Cramp?? Doctor Jess Cramp is a marine biologist and shark researcher known for her deep commitment to shark conservation and ocean policy all over the world. She founded Sharks Pacific, a non-profit working across the Pacific Islands on research, advocacy, and community engagement. She played a key role in the grassroots campaign that established the Cook Islands Shark Sanctuary in 2012, protecting over 770,000 square miles of ocean. Cramp earned her Ph.D. from James Cook University in Australia, with studies focusing on the effectiveness of large marine reserves for highly migratory sharks.She has ALSO been recognized as a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and more recently works at the intersection of science, policy, and local communities. And now - a spot at Nat Geo’s Live events across the world.
National Geographic Live is a speaker / storytelling series featuring National Geographic Explorers, photographers, scientists, and filmmakers. It brings real behind-the-scenes stories to live audiences in theaters and performance venues in cities all over the world. And for our show here at the Kirby? Expect an immersive and breathtaking presentation on sharks and all aquatic life that sharks come in contact with. Dr. Cramp will take us into the archives of National Geographic to spotlight early 20th-century women in shark science, then shift to her own modern field work and conservation efforts in the South Pacific.Viewers will “swim alongside” her via visuals and narrative, learning both the historical context of shark science and the current challenges and strategies for protecting these ancient predators. The event is part of Nat Geo’s Geisinger Signature Series, and is all about being engaging, educational, and inspiring for everyone who attends.
